April Newsletter 2013

Last time I promised to have the links where you can buy Mitch’s Win.  Here they are:

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Smashwords | Kobo | iTunes

Sorry, but I couldn’t find it on Sony or Diesel.

Runaway Bride will be out around April 15!

???????????????????????????????????????

I am currently in the last read through for it and am happy with the way it turned out.  I admit that I wasn’t sure how the story would go since I only had a vague idea of what I was going to do with it, but it turned out to be one of my favorites.  I will make a post on this blog when it’s up on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords.  I used Smashwords to distribute to Kobo, Sony, iTunes, and Diesel, so I don’t know when the book will be up on those sites.

***

I finally figured out what I’ll be working on in the next couple months.

I plan to take a vacation with my family this July, so I had to figure out what books I have the best chance of finishing and publishing before then.  This is what I came up with…

his abducted bride

I’m almost halfway done with this book, so it makes the most sense to put this on the list.  😀  This book will finish up the Across the Stars Series.

kent ashton's backstory ebook

I’m currently posting scenes from this novella in my other blog as I write them.  I’m almost at the halfway point for it too.  It runs parallel to Falling In Love With Her Husband.  Those of you who read Falling In Love With Her Husband know that Kent Ashton was the villain.  Well, this novella will tell his side of the story, and it’s turning out, he’s not the villain Ann and Todd believed him to be.  However, this is not a romance.  This is a book about loss and heartache.  It sets the stage for what will be Kent’s romance, Lassoing Her Groom.

lassoing her groom

And since I’m working on this novella right now, I figured I’d work on Lassoing Her Groom.  I’d like to publish Kent Ashton’s Backstory and Lassoing Her Groom at the same time so you can read them back to back.

his reluctant lady

That leaves me with one other book I can possibly write and publish before my vacation.  I want to do a Regency.  It wasn’t an easy choice on which one to do, but in the end I decided to go with His Reluctant Lady because this book comes before The Earl’s Scandalous Wife (which is Perry’s book and I know everyone would rather read about Perry than Christopher Robinson his ward).  But this book does have some scenes with Perry in it.  Since this book will help establish Perry as “the earl who can’t find a wife”, I thought it’d be the best one to whet everyone’s appetite for The Earl’s Scandalous Wife.  I know, I know.  I have a wicked streak in wanting to torment people further by making them wait longer for Perry’s book, but trust me, his story will be much better after I help set the stage for his situation.

***

Next month, I’ll probably mostly check in to let everyone know my progress.  In the meantime, I hope everyone will have a fun and awesome April!

March Newsletter 2013

Mitch’s Win Will Be Available For April!

michs-win-new-ebook-cover

When I post my April Newsletter, I fully expect to have the information on where to buy Mitch’s Win.  The first draft is done, and I am currently going over it with a team of editors and proofreaders to polish it up.

Runaway Bride’s First Draft is Almost Done

???????????????????????????????????????

I expect to have the first draft done early this month, but the process of polishing it up will take me through April.  I expect to have this published by the time I set up the May Newsletter, which puts me right on track for when I hoped to have it out.  😀

My current works in progress that you already know about from last month’s newsletter:

His Abducted Bride (Book 3 in the Across the Stars Series)

Just Good Friends (the Holiday Romance Spanning from Thanksgiving to New Year’s)

His Reluctant Lady (a Regency featuring Christopher Robinson from The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife and A Most Unsuitable Earl)

However, I have something new:

Kent Ashton’s Backstory

kent ashton's backstory ebook

Anyone remember the villain (Ann’s love interest before she married Todd) in Falling In Love With Her Husband?  Well, someone asked about him a while back, and I started thinking of his future.  In doing so, I started to wonder about his side of the story in Falling In Love With Her Husband.  We’re only given Ann’s and Todd’s points of view in Falling In Love With Her Husband.  We’re never told Kent’s version of events.  When I started thinking about him (and what motivated him to do the things he did), I realized he’s not quite the villain he appears to be.  Granted, he was wrong to try to steal Ann from Todd, and he has to feel bad about that.  But up to then, other things were going on in his life that explains how he isn’t a total villain.

If you’re interested, I’m writing scenes and posting them as I find time on my other blog.  Just look for “Kent and Backstory”.  I will publish Kent’s backstory when I finish telling his version of events.  I expect it to be a novellette (longer than a short story but shorter than a novella).  I’ll publish this on Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, Kobo, Apple, Sony, Diesel, and other places Smashwords distributes to.  I’ll let you know when it’s up in ebook form.

Stuff I Will Start Working On Soon

I’m already making plans on what to start working on now that I’m done with Mitch’s Win and will soon finish Runaway Bride.  Here they are…

Since I’m working on Kent Ashton’s backstory, I plan to write his romance.  I don’t want his backstory to take up the romance novel, which is why I’m putting Kent’s story into its own novellette.  His story will lead to this historical western romance that will fit into the Nebraska Romance Collection:

lassoing her groom

The heroine for this book will be Rose Larson (one of Dave and Mary Larson’s daughters).  This book takes place around 1907 (give or take a year or two).  This will make Kent 25 and Rose 18.  Anyway, Kent will have just returned from Ireland and will be taking the train to California.  While he is taking a break in Omaha, he ends up being attacked for his money, and Dave Larson finds him and brings him home to give him time to heal before he continues to California.  But Rose Larson falls in love with him and does what she can to persuade him to stay in Omaha and marry her.  I don’t know if it’ll be a comedy or not, but it has the potential to be funny.

boaz's wager ebook cover

Mitch’s Win ends with Boaz wanting to get married so he can have a mother raise his children.  Since the two books are so closely connected, I feel that it’s best to write Boaz’s Wager sooner rather than later.  I’ll give more information about this book next month.  This post is getting long enough as it is.  😀

the earl's scandalous wife

Last but not least, I do feel it’s time to get to Lord Clement (Perry)’s book.  This will feature Perry (probably the most popular hero I have in the Regency Collection).  More information will be coming soon.

Hope everyone has a great March!

February Newsletter 2013

This is more of an update on what I’m writing.  Due to having to take so much time off to move (twice and yes, it’s a long and confusing story) and taking care of sick kids, it’s just been slow going.  It doesn’t help that I’ve also been sick and am now sick again.  But I keep reminding myself that the turtle won the race, not the rabbit.  So I am going to work on pacing myself so I avoid burn-out while trying to get back into a writing routine.

I probably won’t have anything new published until May.  If you want to skip my monthly newsletters until then, I understand.

Okay, with that disclaimer aside, here are the updates on what I’m doing:

Runaway Bride

h

Today, I will get into chapter 11.  I’m not sure if this is the point where Lexie runs off with Mark, but she’s getting close to it.  😀  The current estimated publishing month is mid-May.  I’ll have a better idea next month of what’s going on.  I could rush the story to get it out sooner, but the quality of the story would suffer.  If I’ve learned nothing else over the past five years of writing romances, it’s the importance of getting the story right the first time.

Mitch’s Win

michs-win-new-ebook-cover

I’m at chapter 14, but this has been a harder book to write, and I’ve been having to go slower than what I normally write in my books.  The reason it’s been harder to write is that even though I know the major plot points, I don’t always know how to get from one major plot point to the next.  It’s been a challenge to say the least.  Some books practically write themselves.  Others seem need a good shove to keep going.

His Abducted Bride

his abducted bride

Since I’ve put so much focus in Runaway Bride, this one lacks the word count I was hoping to have by now.  I’m in the middle of chapter 7 where the hero uses magic to force the heroine to marry him.  Needless to say, she’s not too happy.  😀  What I need to do is figure out how to proceed from here.  That’s why it’s slowed down.

His Reluctant Lady

his reluctant lady

I have worked on this from time to time.  I know a lot of people want to see Perry (Lord Clement) be the hero of his romance.  I was hoping to establish another intrigue for him before I write his book, but this book might fizzle out.  There are times when it interests me and other times when I think my time could be better spent writing something else.  I’m not sure what to do.  I know I set the foundation for this book in A Most Unsuitable Earl, but honestly, no one really seems to care if Christopher and Agatha work things out or not, which makes it harder to “care” about this book.  I love the cover, though, and am thinking of giving the cover to another book.

Just Good Friends

just good friends

I’m going back to this idea.  I’ve had it for two years, but I had trouble getting motivated to do a contemporary.  Now that I am writing two contemporaries (Runaway Bride and His Abducted Bride), I am back into the “writing a contemporary” mindset that I need to do this book.  I think I better write it before I slip back out of it.  So I’m going for it.

Slow Going on Future Books

I don’t know when I’ll get around to The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife (which is the most frequently asked question I get) or Forever Yours (the second most frequently asked question).  I am writing as fast as I can given the circumstances in my life.   I had planned to be further along than I am.  I wanted to publish Runaway Bride in March and have His Abducted Bride out in April.  Well, that’s not going to happen, and it does bum me out.  I hate not being able to get more books out, but this just might be a slow year for me.  😦

Since I don’t to end this newsletter on a sad note, I’ll end with this quote from Jack Nicklaus: Resolve never to quit, never to give up, no matter what the situation.  😀

Have a happy February!

Current Works in Progress

Last month was spent getting my house ready for sale, so I made no real progress in writing.  I have, however, now picked up on writing again.  I am working on two contemporaries at the moment.  They are both part of the Across the Stars series.

Book 1 is Suddenly a Bride.

h

Book 2 is Mark Tanner and Lexie Rogers’ romance.

h I’m just starting chapter seven.  The basic premise of Runaway Bride is that Lexie is engaged to the man of her mother’s dreams, but after meeting Lexie in Suddenly a Bride, Mark decides to do whatever it takes to convince Lexie that she’s better off with him.

Book 3 is Sandy Davis’ Romance

his abducted bride

I’m just starting chapter six in this one.  Sandy shows up in Book 1 as Caitlyn’s best friend who works at the diner.  I’m hoping to give her a scene in Runaway Bride (but I haven’t gotten that far into the book yet).  I’d like to do more to establish Sandy’s character and the reason why she’s “anti-man” because she does have a good reason for being bitter when it comes to men and relationships.  Anyway, in book 3, she is just about done writing her fantasy novel, and in this novel, she’s ready to kill off the villain.  Well, the villain sucks her into the story to try to convince her to let him live.  😀

What Else I Might Work On Soon

I haven’t decided for sure, but I’m thinking of either going for Forever Yours (Dave and Mary Larson’s third romance) or The Earl’s Scandalous Wife (Perry, Lord Clement’s romance).  I finally got the idea for Perry’s book, and I think it’ll be fun to put him in the middle of a scandal since he’s always been a straight and narrow kind of guy.  Next month, I should have a better idea of what other book I’ll be doing and hopefully have an idea of when I can publish Runaway Bride and His Abducted Bride.

Hope everyone is having a great January!

January Newsletter Will Go Up When B&N Gets My Book Out

I’m still having trouble with Barnes and Noble getting my latest book up on their site.  I’m not the only author having issues, though.  Other authors I’ve talked to are having problems as well.  I don’t want to give out links to the book until it’s up on B&N.  Then I can just put all the information in one post.  I apologize for the inconvenience.  I know it sucks when you wait and wait and still don’t have thing you want available.

December 2012 Newsletter

A Most Unsuitable Earl will be out Next Month!

The wait is almost over.  I plan to have this out around the first week of January.  I might have to delay the newsletter by a couple of days in order to give you all of the links, so if the newsletter isn’t out on January 1, it will be out shortly after the 1st.

List of My Books and Books To Come

Once in a while, I get a question about the chronological list of my books or books I plan to write based on lovable characters from other books I’ve already done.  I made a blog post on my other blog with a list of all romance books I have written, what I am working on, and what I want to work on in the future.  I hope this helps.  😀

Works in Progress

***

In the immediate future, I am working on Runaway Bride and His Abducted Bride.  At the moment, I am at chapter three in Runaway Bride and chapter four in His Abducted Bride. I plan to publish both at the same time.

My plan is to have both out in late winter or early spring.  It depends on how much I’m able to write.  At the moment, I’m in the process of moving, so writing is slower than usual.   Depending on how things settle down in the next month, I’ll get a better idea of how much I can write each day.

***

Right now my efforts are on Runaway Bride and His Abducted Bride, so I’m not going to worry about the other books I want to write at the moment.  That’s all I have for now.  I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!

November Newsletter 2012

I apologize for getting this out so late.  I went to a writer’s conference and was one of the speakers at a workshop, so I was working on the presentation.  I got home yesterday and am trying to catch up with everything today.  I’m halfway there.  😀

Fortunately, nothing major is going on the last week of November, so I should be able to get December’s newsletter out on time.

Substitute Bride is Now Available!

I hadn’t planned on this when I wrote the October Newsletter, but I really like this novella.  It was cute and fun and light.  I originally wrote it under Kate Page, but since then, I decided to get rid of that pen name because I didn’t have time to manage it while still writing books as Ruth Ann Nordin.  It’s easier to make all books under Ruth.  I have no other Kate Page books to republish under Ruth, so this is it.  😀

Anyway, if you read the Kate Page version, you already read the book and there’s no need to get this one.  All I did was take out some unnecessary love scenes and added one scene between Kevin and Tammy and another scene between Kevin and Alex (when Alex was trying to get Kevin interested in her).

Here’s the description:

Kevin Edwards stands to inherit one million dollars. The catch? He must get married by Valentine’s Day. With only a month to spare, he seeks out the first woman who catches his interest: Tammy. But his best friend, Alexandra (Alex) Dixon is convinced he’s making the biggest mistake of his life. So she decides she will take Tammy’s place and be his bride instead. Can she convince him that things will be much better if they become more than friends or will he say “I do” to the wrong woman?

If interested, the links are below.  (It will be up on Kobo, Sony, Diesel, and Apple in about a month or so, depending on how quickly Smashwords distributes it.)

Other Works in Progress

The most notable one is A Most Unsuitable Earl.

I expect to finish the first draft of this one this week.  Then it’s off to others to give a read through.  I already went on and on about this book, so I won’t bore you with the description again.  😀

His Reluctant Bride

(old working title: The Write Husband)

This was inspired by a character who popped up in A Most Unsuitable Earl.  Agatha Lyons, the Lady of Richfield, was married and widowed in the span of twenty-four hours.  And given her desire for freedom that she now has as a widow, she has no desire to marry.  But Mister Christopher Robinson (the ward who had to clean Lord Roderick’s chamber pots in The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife–remember him?) sees Agatha and immediately falls in love with her.  Despite her cold indifference to him, he’s determined to marry her, even if it takes a scandal to make it happen.

(Note: The Write Husband just no longer worked as a title, so I had to change it.  And yes, I know I have to change my header to reflect the new title.)

I’ll give more information about my works in progress in December’s Newsletter.  I want to get this out tonight.  😀

Other Works in Progress

(Please note: this is a tentative list)

A Most Unsuitable Earl

I modified this title from A Most Unsuitable Husband, so if you wonder what happened to A Most Unsuitable Husband, I just changed the title.  😀

I’m currently closing around the halfway point of the book, and I’m happy with the humor in it.  This is definitely a romantic comedy.   Ethan has married Catherine, and he’s facing a very disgruntled father-in-law while his mother is overjoyed.  In case you haven’t read the sample scene and character interview on my other blog, here they are:

Sample Scene: How to Trap an Earl Into Marriage

Character Interview: Three Irate Characters and One Who’s Happy About the Marriage

***

Mitch’s Win

I don’t blame anyone who wants to bop me over the head for, once again, changing the title or the collection I’m putting this in.  I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do with this book.  There was a huge internal debate about whether to make a new series or stick only with the Nebraska Romance Collection for historical westerns.  After a lot (and I mean a lot) of soul searching, I decided this book is better off in a new collection.  Since I don’t necessarily write books in chronological order, I don’t want to call any books but the Native American Romance Series a “series.” So we’ll just say Mitch’s Win is the first book I’m writing in the Montana Romance Collection.

I am halfway into this book, and things are progressing nicely.  😀

Here’s the updated description (in case you haven’t read it yet):

When Mitch Grady goes to a saloon to take his wayward brother home, he finds that his brother’s horse isn’t the only thing being offered in a poker game.  Heather Curtiss’ brother has bet her as well.  Vowing an innocent woman won’t be forced to give up her virtue to a disreputable gambler, Mitch joins in the game of poker, and with luck, he wins and frees Heather.

Heather sees this as her chance to get away from her brother and appeals to Mitch’s kindness to marry her, offering to help him care for his ailing mother and the two children under his roof.  He agrees, and they become husband and wife.  But Heather’s brother hasn’t gone away.  And Mitch might find that winning her is going to take more than a poker game.

I’ll end the newsletter here so it doesn’t get too long.

I hope everyone has a great October!

After burying him in a forest, they come across a gentleman who has been beaten and left for dead.  And this gentleman happens to look exactly like her husband.  Seeing this as the answer to their prayers, they take him home in hopes he’ll agree to be the new Duke of Watkins.  There’s only one problem.  When he wakes up, he doesn’t remember who he is.

Dare they replace her husband with a counterfeit?  And if they do, what consequences will come as a result of their lie?
