His Abducted Bride is finally out!

Kent Ashton’s Backstory – first draft done!

kent ashton's backstory ebook

I’m happy to say I finished the first draft on it.  It’s a novella (about 13 chapters).  I wrote it to answer the question of why Kent did the things he did in the romance Falling In Love With Her Husband (which featured Ann Statesman and Todd Brothers).

I don’t plan to publish this until I have Catching Kent out.  Kent Ashton’s Backstory is a prequel to Catching Kent and I’d like to have the two out together.   That way if you want to read the prequel, you can read Catching Kent right away.

Catching Kent (used to be Lassoing Her Groom)

catching kent ebook

I didn’t care much for the cover, and after I spent a month looking for a suitable picture that would fit Lassoing Her Groom, I gave up and decided to change the title.  So Lassoing Her Groom is now Catching Kent.  This was one of those books that was hard to name and title.  Some books are easy to do and others just aren’t.  I’m happy with the new cover.

I’m over the halfway point in this romance.  This will be a full-length romance, and it is where Kent Ashton will get his second chance at love.

I am hoping to have Kent Ashton’s Backstory and Catching Kent available in late September/early October.  *fingers crossed*

The Stagecoach Bride is on hold

The Stagecoach Bride ebook cover

I’ll let you know when this is due to be published, but for the time being, it’s on hold.

Bride by Arrangement is on track

Bride by Arrangement ebook cover

This anthology is going along nicely.  I’m in chapter seven of mine.  I changed the title of mine from “Pete’s Wife” to “The Purchased Bride”.  Janet Syas Nistick’s novella is “She Came By Train” and she’s in chapter two.  My novella is going to be longer than Janet’s.  At the moment, we are looking at a released date some time in December.  *fingers crossed*

The Earl’s Scandalous Wife

the earl's scandalous wife

This is Lord Clement (aka Perry)’s romance.  I am finally writing it!  I wanted to marry his ward, Christopher Robinson, first.  Now that I did that, I can move on to Perry’s book.  Progress has been slow in this one, but at least I established the scandal.  I am finally at chapter 3.  I’d also like to get this book out before the end of this year.  *fingers crossed*

Boaz’s Wager

boaz's wager ebook cover

I finally started this one and am at chapter 2.  I hope to get this one at either later this year or early next.

I actually have a description of this one.  (The descriptions for the other books are in progress.)

Here’s the description for this one:

What Boaz Grady wants more than anything else is to have his children living with him.  But in order to get them back, he needs to marry a woman who’ll be their mother.

Eva Connealy left Omaha, Nebraska to be a school teacher.  While in Montana, her stagecoach is attacked, and the men decide to sell her.  While the men in Lewistown post bids for her, Boaz makes a wager of his own and wins the right to marry her.

Despite the shaky beginning, Boaz is sure she’ll adjust to her new life as his children’s mother.  But she wants to be more than a mother.  She also wants to be a wife and vows to figure out how to take their marriage of convenience into something much, much more.

Delayed Release Dates for His Abducted Bride and His Reluctant Lady

I had hoped to have information about a new release out by now, but I got an offer to put His Abducted Bride and His Reluctant Lady up on pre-order at the Apple iBookstore.  I decided to try it because I’ve never done anything like it before.  This means the release dates for both books have been pushed back.   I was encouraged to pick Tuesdays for a release date for the books and give it at least a month, so that is how I picked the dates listed below:

his abducted bride

His Abducted Bride is now set for July 30.

his reluctant lady

His Reluctant Lady is now set for August 6.

Other Books I’m Working On

The Stagecoach Bride – by me and Stephannie Beman

The Stagecoach Bride ebook cover

We’re at the last chapter or two of this book.  I’m not sure when it’ll be done.  Stephannie has ranch work to tend to, so her schedule is hectic in the summer.

Kent Aston’s Backstory and Lassoing Her Groom

I’m going to release Kent Ashton’s Backstory and Lassoing Her Groom together, so I am working on both at the same time.

kent ashton's backstory ebook

Kent Ashton’s Backstory is the prequel to Lassoing Her Groom.  I can’t put it in the same novel, though, because Kent’s story doesn’t include Rose Larson, and Rose Larson is the one he ends up with.  Kent’s story is one of heartbreak, of love gained and lost.

Lassoing Her Groom

But Lassoing Her Groom is about a second chance.  Some of us have had past relationships that just didn’t work for one reason or another.  Kent Ashton’s Backstory is one such story.  But it also tells the story from his point of view during the events that take place in Falling In Love With Her Husband.

So I have to treat Kent Ashton’s Backstory and Lassoing Her Groom as two separate books, even though they are connected.

At this point in time, I hope to finish the first draft to both of these on September 1, which will (hopefully) put me on track for an October release date.  I don’t plan to do another pre-order thing like I’m doing this time with His Abducted Bride and His Reluctant Lady.

Bride by Arrangement

Bride by Arrangement ebook cover

I finally have a title for my novella in this anthology.  It’s “Pete’s Wife”.  Janet Syas Nitsick is doing the novella “She Came By Train”.  So far in my novella, I am about 1/4 of the way into it.  This anthology is dependent on when Janet finishes hers on when this book is published.  So it’s hard to pin down a release date on it.

But… in the meantime, I have finally started Lord Clement’s romance….

The Earl’s Scandalous Wife

the earl's scandalous wife

I hope to have the first draft done by November 1. *fingers crossed*  I do want to have this book out before the end of this year.

That’s it for now.  I hope everyone is going to have an awesome July!

New Releases Coming in July!

I’m not sure when in July, though.  At the moment, I’m almost done with His Reluctant Lady and His Abducted Bride.  In fact, I think I’ll be finishing them both around the same time.

his reluctant lady

I think I finally have the description will work for this book:

Will she choose marriage to avoid a scandal?

From the moment Mister Christopher Robinson meets Lady Richfield at a ball, he is enchanted with her.   But Agatha Lyons has no desire to enslave herself to another cold husband.  She’s very happy as a widow and is determined to stay that way.

Unfortunately, she is hiding a secret, a secret so shocking that, if discovered, it could ruin her reputation.  When a little slip exposes this secret, Mister Robinson sees his chance and makes her a deal: marry him or risk scandal.  Will she keep her independence as a wealthy widow or will she succumb to a second husband who not only threatens to ignite her dormant passions but makes her want to give up her heart as well?

I can’t make any promises on when this book will be available, but I’ll try to have it close to July 1.  *fingers crossed*

his abducted bride

Here’s what it’s about in case you haven’t read the description yet:

All Sandy Davis wants is to forget about romance.  Romance is for other people, not for her.  She’s been rejected too many times and doesn’t want anything else to do with it.  To escape, she writes an epic fantasy, picturing herself as the queen who rises against the threat of King Blackheart who is determined to conquer her kingdom.

On the eve where she’s going to write the ending where she kills him, he arranges it so that he takes her into the story.  But he doesn’t abduct her so she’ll be his prisoner.  His plan is to make her his wife and prove that he’s not the villain she’s made him out to be.

This book will finish up the Across the Stars Series.  (Suddenly a Bride is book 1 and Runaway Bride is book 2).   I’m hoping to have this one out in mid-July.  *fingers crossed again*  🙂

Other Works in Progress

Kent Ashton’s Backstory

kent ashton's backstory ebook

I’m still working on this one but ran into a little problem with knowing how Kent finds out his father is the one manipulating his life.  I can work ahead on the scenes that involve him and Ann (that appear in Falling In Love With Her Husband) since those scenes are already set, but I can’t do more than that.  So I’m waiting until I figure out the best way to proceed before I continue.  🙂

lassoing her groom

I’m going to modify this cover.  This story has been temporarily put on hold because….

I am working on two romances with two different authors!

The Stagecoach Bride (co-author with Stephannie Beman)

I don’t have a cover for it yet, but the first one is with Stephannie Beman.  It’s about a mail-order bride traveling in a stagecoach in Wyoming when a band of outlaws abduct her in order to demand a ransom from the man she’s supposed to marry.  More information on this will be coming in the future, but we’re currently at chapter 10 in this one so progress has been nice.

Bride by Arrangement (anthology with Janet Syas Nitsick)

Bride by Arrangement ebook cover

This will be an anthology of novellas.  I’m writing this with Janet Syas Nitsick.  She’s writing a novella about a woman who must choose which man to marry: the man she’s a governess for or a preacher.  Her novella will be a sweet romance (meaning there will be no sex in it).  I’m writing a novella about a woman whose brother has arranged for her to marry a man out west.  When she arrives at her destination, she learns that the hero’s brother has arranged the marriage and that the hero in this book is deaf.  (Sometimes I like to have an imperfect hero because one of my sons is deaf, and I like to show that people with disabilities have something important to offer.)

This book will take place in Omaha, Nebraska, so I might be able to slip in a character from the Nebraska Series, but I can’t promise anything yet.  Being a novella, this will be limited in how much I can do.  😀

****

A quick look forward

I have tons of books to write.  I only wish I had more time.  But to give a quick idea of what I’m hoping to write before the year is up, this is a brief list.

The Earl’s Scandalous Wife – Perry (Lord Clement) finally gets his own book!  I now have the scandal that will finally get him married.  The poor man has been through so much with so many ill-fated attempts at marriage.  Now, he’ll finally get his turn.

Boaz’s Wager – This is book 2 in the Montana Romance Collection.  Mitch’s Win is book 1.  Boaz wants to find a wife so he can take care of his children, but the woman he married (Eva Connealy from Isaac’s Decision) wants more than the marriage of convenience he’s offering her.  I’ve always wanted to do a romance where the hero is afraid to have sex with the heroine because he’s afraid she’ll die in childbirth, and this is the perfect opportunity to do that.

Patty’s Game – This is book 3 in the Montana Romance Collection.  Patty will finally find a way to get Greg Wilson to marry her, but he won’t be happy at all.  There’s a reason he doesn’t want to be married, but he won’t tell her.  She’ll assume it’s because she needs to be more ladylike, and that’s exactly what she’ll try to do.  I’m hoping this will be a comedy, but we’ll see.

That’s it for now.  I hope everyone has a great June!

May 2013 Newsletter

Now that I’ve had time to relax after the RT Booklovers Convention, I can write up this newsletter.  🙂

Runaway Bride is Available!

runaway bride ebook

I’m pretty sure you all know this already, but just in case someone reading this doesn’t, I’ll post the links where it’s at:

Amazon

B&N

Kobo

iTunes

Smashwords

At last check, it’s still not up at Sony or Diesel.

Works in Progress

I’m working on four books at the moment and enjoying each one.  🙂

his abducted bride

I’m at chapter 16 in this one.  Our hero and heroine are now happy together, but there’s a villain who is going to do whatever he can to keep them apart.  This book is a romantic fantasy, one in which the heroine gets trapped in the book she’s writing.  It’s different from other books I’ve done, but it’s also something I’ve been wanting to do since 1997, so it’s fun to finally see the idea to completion.

his reluctant lady

I’ll be the first to admit I wasn’t sure about this one when I started it.  I knew I wanted to write a book about Christopher Robinson (Perry’s ward in The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife), and after I introduced Agatha Lyons (Ethan’s friend) in A Most Unsuitable Earl, I knew the two would be well matched.  Christopher’s mischievous nature and Agatha’s need for cold indifference to love and intimacy is the perfect combination for some funny moments and some pretty steamy sex scenes.  I also get a chance to get Perry close to the altar.  I want to set the stage for Perry’s book while writing this one so that way when you read The Earl’s Scandalous Wife, it’ll be even more satisfying when he gets the lady who’ll love him.

I think I’m at chapter 14 in this one, but I’m writing it out of order so it’s hard to know for sure.

kent ashton's backstory ebook

This one is turning out to be longer than I planned.  Originally, it was going to be 10,000 words. Now it’s at 18,000 words (chapter 8), and I’ve finally hit the halfway point.  I don’t know how long it’ll be, but it’ll be a novella.  This book serves as the prequel to Lassoing Her Groom.

lassoing her groom

This one has some funny moments, but it’s not a romantic comedy.  I’m thinking of changing the cover.  I mean, this is cute, but I’m not sure this is what I want to end up with.  I’ll continue to debate this cover.  But as for the story, it’s the one where Kent Ashton finally finds love.  I’m not sure how the whole thing will play out yet.  I sense his father might look for him in this book, but it’s too early to tell.  I’m about 26,000 words into it (around chapter 10).

***

For reference, I average between 22-26 chapters per full-length book I write.

Estimated Release Dates

This is a hard one because it’s difficult to predict timing on things like this when you aren’t sure what the final word count will be, take into consideration real life rearing its ugly head (wish I could write every day but some days bomb out on me), and waiting time for editors and proofreaders.  That all being said, I’m going to brave some estimated release dates.

His Reluctant Lady – July 2013

His Abducted Bride – July/August 2013

Kent Ashton’s Backstory and Lassoing Her Groom – (these will be published at the same time since they go together) – August/September 2013

April Newsletter 2013

Last time I promised to have the links where you can buy Mitch’s Win.  Here they are:

Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Smashwords | Kobo | iTunes

Sorry, but I couldn’t find it on Sony or Diesel.

Runaway Bride will be out around April 15!

???????????????????????????????????????

I am currently in the last read through for it and am happy with the way it turned out.  I admit that I wasn’t sure how the story would go since I only had a vague idea of what I was going to do with it, but it turned out to be one of my favorites.  I will make a post on this blog when it’s up on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords.  I used Smashwords to distribute to Kobo, Sony, iTunes, and Diesel, so I don’t know when the book will be up on those sites.

***

I finally figured out what I’ll be working on in the next couple months.

I plan to take a vacation with my family this July, so I had to figure out what books I have the best chance of finishing and publishing before then.  This is what I came up with…

his abducted bride

I’m almost halfway done with this book, so it makes the most sense to put this on the list.  😀  This book will finish up the Across the Stars Series.

kent ashton's backstory ebook

I’m currently posting scenes from this novella in my other blog as I write them.  I’m almost at the halfway point for it too.  It runs parallel to Falling In Love With Her Husband.  Those of you who read Falling In Love With Her Husband know that Kent Ashton was the villain.  Well, this novella will tell his side of the story, and it’s turning out, he’s not the villain Ann and Todd believed him to be.  However, this is not a romance.  This is a book about loss and heartache.  It sets the stage for what will be Kent’s romance, Lassoing Her Groom.

lassoing her groom

And since I’m working on this novella right now, I figured I’d work on Lassoing Her Groom.  I’d like to publish Kent Ashton’s Backstory and Lassoing Her Groom at the same time so you can read them back to back.

his reluctant lady

That leaves me with one other book I can possibly write and publish before my vacation.  I want to do a Regency.  It wasn’t an easy choice on which one to do, but in the end I decided to go with His Reluctant Lady because this book comes before The Earl’s Scandalous Wife (which is Perry’s book and I know everyone would rather read about Perry than Christopher Robinson his ward).  But this book does have some scenes with Perry in it.  Since this book will help establish Perry as “the earl who can’t find a wife”, I thought it’d be the best one to whet everyone’s appetite for The Earl’s Scandalous Wife.  I know, I know.  I have a wicked streak in wanting to torment people further by making them wait longer for Perry’s book, but trust me, his story will be much better after I help set the stage for his situation.

***

Next month, I’ll probably mostly check in to let everyone know my progress.  In the meantime, I hope everyone will have a fun and awesome April!

Mitch’s Win Will Be Available For April!

michs-win-new-ebook-cover

When I post my April Newsletter, I fully expect to have the information on where to buy Mitch’s Win.  The first draft is done, and I am currently going over it with a team of editors and proofreaders to polish it up.

Runaway Bride’s First Draft is Almost Done

???????????????????????????????????????

I expect to have the first draft done early this month, but the process of polishing it up will take me through April.  I expect to have this published by the time I set up the May Newsletter, which puts me right on track for when I hoped to have it out.  😀

My current works in progress that you already know about from last month’s newsletter:

His Abducted Bride (Book 3 in the Across the Stars Series)

Just Good Friends (the Holiday Romance Spanning from Thanksgiving to New Year’s)

His Reluctant Lady (a Regency featuring Christopher Robinson from The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife and A Most Unsuitable Earl)

However, I have something new:

Kent Ashton’s Backstory

kent ashton's backstory ebook

Anyone remember the villain (Ann’s love interest before she married Todd) in Falling In Love With Her Husband?  Well, someone asked about him a while back, and I started thinking of his future.  In doing so, I started to wonder about his side of the story in Falling In Love With Her Husband.  We’re only given Ann’s and Todd’s points of view in Falling In Love With Her Husband.  We’re never told Kent’s version of events.  When I started thinking about him (and what motivated him to do the things he did), I realized he’s not quite the villain he appears to be.  Granted, he was wrong to try to steal Ann from Todd, and he has to feel bad about that.  But up to then, other things were going on in his life that explains how he isn’t a total villain.

If you’re interested, I’m writing scenes and posting them as I find time on my other blog.  Just look for “Kent and Backstory”.  I will publish Kent’s backstory when I finish telling his version of events.  I expect it to be a novellette (longer than a short story but shorter than a novella).  I’ll publish this on Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, Kobo, Apple, Sony, Diesel, and other places Smashwords distributes to.  I’ll let you know when it’s up in ebook form.

Stuff I Will Start Working On Soon

I’m already making plans on what to start working on now that I’m done with Mitch’s Win and will soon finish Runaway Bride.  Here they are…

Since I’m working on Kent Ashton’s backstory, I plan to write his romance.  I don’t want his backstory to take up the romance novel, which is why I’m putting Kent’s story into its own novellette.  His story will lead to this historical western romance that will fit into the Nebraska Romance Collection:

lassoing her groom

The heroine for this book will be Rose Larson (one of Dave and Mary Larson’s daughters).  This book takes place around 1907 (give or take a year or two).  This will make Kent 25 and Rose 18.  Anyway, Kent will have just returned from Ireland and will be taking the train to California.  While he is taking a break in Omaha, he ends up being attacked for his money, and Dave Larson finds him and brings him home to give him time to heal before he continues to California.  But Rose Larson falls in love with him and does what she can to persuade him to stay in Omaha and marry her.  I don’t know if it’ll be a comedy or not, but it has the potential to be funny.

boaz's wager ebook cover

Mitch’s Win ends with Boaz wanting to get married so he can have a mother raise his children.  Since the two books are so closely connected, I feel that it’s best to write Boaz’s Wager sooner rather than later.  I’ll give more information about this book next month.  This post is getting long enough as it is.  😀

the earl's scandalous wife

Last but not least, I do feel it’s time to get to Lord Clement (Perry)’s book.  This will feature Perry (probably the most popular hero I have in the Regency Collection).  More information will be coming soon.

Hope everyone has a great March!

February Newsletter 2013

This is more of an update on what I’m writing.  Due to having to take so much time off to move (twice and yes, it’s a long and confusing story) and taking care of sick kids, it’s just been slow going.  It doesn’t help that I’ve also been sick and am now sick again.  But I keep reminding myself that the turtle won the race, not the rabbit.  So I am going to work on pacing myself so I avoid burn-out while trying to get back into a writing routine.

I probably won’t have anything new published until May.  If you want to skip my monthly newsletters until then, I understand.

Okay, with that disclaimer aside, here are the updates on what I’m doing:

Runaway Bride

h

Today, I will get into chapter 11.  I’m not sure if this is the point where Lexie runs off with Mark, but she’s getting close to it.  😀  The current estimated publishing month is mid-May.  I’ll have a better idea next month of what’s going on.  I could rush the story to get it out sooner, but the quality of the story would suffer.  If I’ve learned nothing else over the past five years of writing romances, it’s the importance of getting the story right the first time.

Mitch’s Win

michs-win-new-ebook-cover

I’m at chapter 14, but this has been a harder book to write, and I’ve been having to go slower than what I normally write in my books.  The reason it’s been harder to write is that even though I know the major plot points, I don’t always know how to get from one major plot point to the next.  It’s been a challenge to say the least.  Some books practically write themselves.  Others seem need a good shove to keep going.

His Abducted Bride

his abducted bride

Since I’ve put so much focus in Runaway Bride, this one lacks the word count I was hoping to have by now.  I’m in the middle of chapter 7 where the hero uses magic to force the heroine to marry him.  Needless to say, she’s not too happy.  😀  What I need to do is figure out how to proceed from here.  That’s why it’s slowed down.

His Reluctant Lady

his reluctant lady

I have worked on this from time to time.  I know a lot of people want to see Perry (Lord Clement) be the hero of his romance.  I was hoping to establish another intrigue for him before I write his book, but this book might fizzle out.  There are times when it interests me and other times when I think my time could be better spent writing something else.  I’m not sure what to do.  I know I set the foundation for this book in A Most Unsuitable Earl, but honestly, no one really seems to care if Christopher and Agatha work things out or not, which makes it harder to “care” about this book.  I love the cover, though, and am thinking of giving the cover to another book.

Just Good Friends

just good friends

I’m going back to this idea.  I’ve had it for two years, but I had trouble getting motivated to do a contemporary.  Now that I am writing two contemporaries (Runaway Bride and His Abducted Bride), I am back into the “writing a contemporary” mindset that I need to do this book.  I think I better write it before I slip back out of it.  So I’m going for it.

Slow Going on Future Books

I don’t know when I’ll get around to The Earl’s Inconvenient Wife (which is the most frequently asked question I get) or Forever Yours (the second most frequently asked question).  I am writing as fast as I can given the circumstances in my life.   I had planned to be further along than I am.  I wanted to publish Runaway Bride in March and have His Abducted Bride out in April.  Well, that’s not going to happen, and it does bum me out.  I hate not being able to get more books out, but this just might be a slow year for me.  😦

Since I don’t to end this newsletter on a sad note, I’ll end with this quote from Jack Nicklaus: Resolve never to quit, never to give up, no matter what the situation.  😀

Have a happy February!

Current Works in Progress

Last month was spent getting my house ready for sale, so I made no real progress in writing.  I have, however, now picked up on writing again.  I am working on two contemporaries at the moment.  They are both part of the Across the Stars series.

Book 1 is Suddenly a Bride.

h

Book 2 is Mark Tanner and Lexie Rogers’ romance.

h I’m just starting chapter seven.  The basic premise of Runaway Bride is that Lexie is engaged to the man of her mother’s dreams, but after meeting Lexie in Suddenly a Bride, Mark decides to do whatever it takes to convince Lexie that she’s better off with him.

Book 3 is Sandy Davis’ Romance

his abducted bride

I’m just starting chapter six in this one.  Sandy shows up in Book 1 as Caitlyn’s best friend who works at the diner.  I’m hoping to give her a scene in Runaway Bride (but I haven’t gotten that far into the book yet).  I’d like to do more to establish Sandy’s character and the reason why she’s “anti-man” because she does have a good reason for being bitter when it comes to men and relationships.  Anyway, in book 3, she is just about done writing her fantasy novel, and in this novel, she’s ready to kill off the villain.  Well, the villain sucks her into the story to try to convince her to let him live.  😀

What Else I Might Work On Soon

I haven’t decided for sure, but I’m thinking of either going for Forever Yours (Dave and Mary Larson’s third romance) or The Earl’s Scandalous Wife (Perry, Lord Clement’s romance).  I finally got the idea for Perry’s book, and I think it’ll be fun to put him in the middle of a scandal since he’s always been a straight and narrow kind of guy.  Next month, I should have a better idea of what other book I’ll be doing and hopefully have an idea of when I can publish Runaway Bride and His Abducted Bride.

Hope everyone is having a great January!

January Newsletter Will Go Up When B&N Gets My Book Out

I’m still having trouble with Barnes and Noble getting my latest book up on their site.  I’m not the only author having issues, though.  Other authors I’ve talked to are having problems as well.  I don’t want to give out links to the book until it’s up on B&N.  Then I can just put all the information in one post.  I apologize for the inconvenience.  I know it sucks when you wait and wait and still don’t have thing you want available.
